Wow! This year is going by so fast. Does everybody else feel as though the year is just flying by, or is it just me? I can’t believe that Easter has been and gone. I hope that you all had a wonderful long weekend and were able to spend time with your family and friends.
The past few months I have been working on ‘From Dusk’, just giving it a tweak, ironing out a few errors ready for reprint. It is exciting to be doing another print run of the book and hopefully have my first sales at this year’s Gold Coast Supanova on the 22-23 April www.supanova.com.au. I am feeling both nervous and excited about attending Supanova, as this will be the first time that I will have been to the event. But hey, there has to be a first time for everything.
For those of you who have already read ‘From Dusk’, the first book in my Urban Fantasy series, ‘The Vampire Hunter Prophecy’, you will be happy to know that I have been keeping busy and working hard on the sequel, ‘To Dawn’. So, for all of you who have been asking me when the sequel will be released, it will be out later this year, after we have completed editing, cover design, formatting and of course, printing.
The cover design is coming along very nicely, thanks to Luke at Working Type Studio - www.workingtype.com.au. We are continuing the theme from the cover of ‘From Dusk’, and I hope you like it as much as I do. As a writer, to see your story as a picture, even if it is just one, but probably the most important picture, is a very surreal experience. The front cover is a visual interpretation of the book, and has to gain a reader’s attention, as well as sum up the whole book at the same time. I hope the cover of ‘To Dawn’, has achieved this.
I am currently working on the editing of ‘To Dawn’, and have just received the edited version back from the publisher. Editing is probably the most daunting part of the whole process for an author. Sometimes it is hard not to take it personally when you receive your manuscript back and it is full of corrections. It is at that moment that you need to stop, take a deep breath, have faith in your writing and know that the editor is working with you, not against you. Their job is to help you make your work the best that it can possibly be. A good editor is priceless. So, on that note, I better get back to editing, otherwise the book won’t be released this year.
